"Life of Pi" to receive Indian Tourism award

The Indian government hopes to tame the dragon with the help of 'Life of Pi' directed and written by Ang Lee and Yann Martel respectively.

The Indian tourism minister Chiranjeevi on Saturday announced that the writer and director of this film are going to be  awarded the national tourism award for the impact their film has made in promoting India as a tourist destination.ith this and the ministry hopes to target the so far indifferent Chinese tourists to their fold. The film has been a roaring success in China, raking in $16 million in its opening weekend itself.

China is one of the largest tourism markets in the world, but India has barely received a fraction of Chinese tourists. Recent data shows that of the around 50 million Chinese who travel overseas every year spending some $40 billion, less than lakh travel to India on business and tourism. Plans that are on the anvil include 'Life of Pi' tour packages for Puducherry and Munnar (Kerala), where the film has been shot, easy availability of Chinese-speaking guides, virtual tour of the two places and a website in Mandarin.

WHEREAS CITY AND CHELSEA'S FORTUNE DWINDLES ROONEY PULLS HIS WEIGHT AS UNITED INCREASE THEIR LEAD TO THREE POINTS

Wayne Rooney after being asked to pull his weight by Sir Alex Ferguson today since this season happens to be one of his poor starts netted two goals in United's match against Reading.
The come back kings, Manchester United won the game 4-3 with goals from Anderson, Rooney and Van Persie.

However league champions Manchester City struggled to draw with David Moyes's side.
Everton made the brighter start, showing more tempo than the home side in the early exchanges, with City’s technicians struggling to affect the game before briefly bursting into life mid-way through the first half but the Toffees were rewarded for their early endeavour in the 33rd minute. Baines, afforded too much space from deep, had time to swing in a brilliant far-post cross which was met with a powerful header bFellaini. Joe Hart did brilliantly to stop the initial shot, but palmed the ball more up than out and the Belgian was able to tuck in the follow-up.

David Moyes and his hard-working Toffees team proved to be Roberto Mancini’s bogeymen once again; making Mancini to have just one win against the Scot from seven encounters.

Chelsea on the other hand lost to West Ham by 3 goals to 1 as Benitez, the former Liverpool boss insists that Torres, who he also managed during his spell at Anfield, is not solely to blame for the goal drought as he continues to search for his first win at the Stamford Bridge helm.

Juan Mata gave Chelsea the lead in the first half but West Ham roared back through goals from Carlton Cole, Mohamed Diame and Modibo Maiga.

In other developments Arsenal lost to Swansea at their backyard by two goals, taking them down to the 10th postion. Tottenham also won at the Craven Cottage by three goals form Jermaine Defoe scoring twice and Sandro. Liverpool as well won by a goal courtesy Agger.

RUUD VANISTELROOY FULL OF PRAISE FOR VAN PERSIE

Ruud Van Nistelrooy the former Old Trafford hero who scored 150 goals in a five-year spell at Manchester United  believes that his countryman Robin Van Persie can spearhead Sir Alex Ferguson's side back to the league crown that they surrendered to Manchester City last season .

According to the retired Dutchman, Van Persie who has already netted eight times in 13 appearances for the club - can give United the edge in their battle to win back the crown they lost to Manchester City last season.

He told The Daily Mirror: "As Robin is proving right now, he's making the difference on many occasions. If he can keep going like this through the whole season then I can see United landing another title win”.

"I think he's fitted in really well at United. It's important for a striker when he goes to a new club to start getting his goals in early.

"That's what happened to Robin. He has the experience of the Premier League already and he’s proved to be a great signing, the way he plays."

The former PSV Eindhoven and Real Madrid striker feels Van Persie has justified £24 million [€29.8m] price-tag since joining the Red Devils from Arsenal in the summer.

Van Nistelrooy added: "I was close to him playing in the national team and I was convinced of his qualities then.

"It still has to work out, but hopefully he can go on and do even better. It's great to see, the way he plays.

"Robin fits into United's playing style. He's everywhere, involved in all of the play and the finishing as well, so that makes him special."

"MACHO" MEN SEARCH FOR EGBERT FAIBILLE AT THE STUDIO'S OF CITI FM

Ayariga's macho men invade Citi FM in search of Egbert Faibille

Ayariga's macho men invade Citi FM in search of Egbert Faibille During the early hours of today over 15 muscled individuals stormed the offices of Adabraka based radio station Citi FM, in attempt to "deal with" lawyer Egbert Faibille for comments he made against PNC flagbearer, Hassan Ayariga.

The men, who claim to be seeking answers from the lawyer, arrived on motorbikes and in buses.

A number of them, in their quest to secure entry into the station, threatened the lives of several members of staff who attempted to speak to them.

Citi News Editor, Richard Mensah, was forced to call for Police protection from the Adabraka Police station.

Mr. Faibille was kept hostage in the offices of Citi FM for several hours following the arrival of the muscled men.

Aide to People's National Convention flagbearer, Akani Adam and member of National Democratic Congress Communication Team, Benjamin Akyena Brentuo walked out following comments by Egbert Faibille describing the presidential candidate of the PNC Hassan Ayariga as a side kick of the NDC.
Mr. Ayariga, who called into the show said, “i want to make it clear to the NPP man in there that the fact that Ayariga is a politician who believes in tolerance he can insult me any how; I want him to retract that statement immediately, he should react that statement about how he described me right now and apologise,’’ Mr. Hassan Ayariga pointed out.

Mr. Egbert Faibille replyed by saying, "i will not retract. I cannot do anything about it and i will not do anything about it. I have an opinion and i have expressed my opinion."

The PNC flagbearer, who has been criticised on several media platforms and also by members of his own party then said, "I think that there is unfair play in the studio there, if other people are asked to apologise and retract statements because of some particular Presidential candidate. I believe that the gentleman there must retract the statement, if he doesn’t, I will not say much again. Tell him [Egbert] that Ghana is not for NPP and if it's violence, everybody can be violent. It is not everyone who can be patient but everyone can be violent, so I demand that he retract that statement immediately. It is not Citi FM that made the statement; he [Egbert] made that statement and if you allow him in the studio I will advice my aide to leave the studio immediately.”

ORGANS OF GOVERNMENT NOT INDEPENDENT

Many a times we say Ghana practices separation of powers but taking a look to the 1992 constitution I ask myself, do we truly practice this concept?
Separation of powers is a concept used to ensure that all arms of government work separately without interference and concentration of power in one hand. The purpose of the doctrine is to check the growth of absolute power in the hands of an individual or a few group of individuals. History has shown that with absolute power concentrated in the hands of a few there is the tendency that they will use the power negatively or in other words use the power against the liberties or rights of other individuals or the majority of persons.
Major authorities of this concept are Baron de Montesquieu and John Locke; however the concept has been given a modern flavor by the U.S.A with James Madison being the major advocate on American soil.
Under the 1992 constitution each of the three primary functions is vested in a distinct body. Legislative power is vested in parliament Article 93(2), Executive power is vested in the President Article 58(1) and Judicial power is vested in the superior and inferior courts        Article 125(3)
Though the three organs of government are distinct the framers of the 1992 constitution were influenced by the element of checks and balances therefore made provisions for it in order to promote interdependence of the organs of government.
The constitution makes it mandatory for the president to elect a section of his cabinet from parliament Article 78(1), the president is also elected separately from parliament for a period of four years and does not depend on them for his continuous stay in power Article 57-88.
The following are the relationships between the organs of government that does not make them independent;
Ø  President and Legislature
The president is not part of parliament but is expected to give sessional address at the beginning of a session and during the dissolution of parliament Article 67.
Bills are initiated by executive but parliament goes through its procedures to approve and the president also assents to all bills t become acts. If he does not assent it parliament can only revert it by two thirds majority vote Article 106(10)
Ø  Legislative control of the Executive
The President nominates ministers however they are subject to vetting and approval by parliament Article 78(1)
Executive initiates all fiscal policies but parliament has the sole prerogative to authorize the use and raising of money Articles 174-178
The executive enters into treaties and negotiations on behalf of the country but all these entered into need parliamentary gratification Article 181(loans) & Article 78(treaties)
Parliament has power to begin impeachment proceedings on stated grounds Article 69. They can also vote to censure a minister for misconduct Article 82
Ø  Judiciary and the Legislature
Judicial appointments depend on legislative approval as well as the position of Chief Justice needs approval from parliament. The Judiciary can also declare an act of parliament unconstitutional.
Ø  Judiciary and the Executive
Judges can also be removed from office on stated grounds by the president Article 146 and the president also exercises the prerogative of mercy which is the highest form of judicial decision Article 72
In conclusion the 1992 constitution can be said to provide four appreciable levels of separation of functions and personnel of the three organs of government. However there are various provisions promoting checks and balances ensuring corporation and interdependence.

USA TO PROVE THEMSELVES IN KINGSTON

Coming off an extremely unlikely, and equally historic, triumph against Mexico in their final friendly tune up, Team Jurgen Klinsmann now confidently enters the first of two CONCACAF World Cup qualification matches against Jamaica but the road through Kingston looks increasingly perilous.
While the Jamaican national team (nicknamed the “Reggae Boyz”) has never managed to beat Team USA in the past 24 years of their squaring off, the “Boyz” have also managed to never lose a qualifier to the Americans when playing on home soil. In fact, in the four games played between the two teams in Jamaica, the USA has not only never won, but they’ve accumulated an unimpressive tally of only one goal scored.
In any case, doesn’t this winless stat raise eyebrows, and definitely one that paints a significantly more daunting picture of Jamaica as legitimately dangerous adversary.
As a result, Team USA needs to enter into this game with the same thick skin and unwavering composure that they demonstrated at Azteca Stadium last month, maybe even more so.
Going without injured players Michael Bradley and Landon Donovan, the Americans have to look for offensive creativity and game-controlling stability from someone else on the roster, but who should they look to?
Clint Dempsey is a world class player and is certainly the most proven goal scoring threat on this team, but will he be in top match shape or form is the real question. He’s coming off a messy Fulham row that has left him without competitive first team football for quite some time now, and that’s never an ideal situation for a player hoping to influence a major international match. He could be a bit rusty, or he could be Dempsey but not knowing just adds that much more pressure on the rest of the team to step up.
Another area of major importance is the central midfield. Michael Bradley has always shown incredible fitness and a definite willingness to breakup opposing team’s play in his center-mid position, but more recently he’s also emerged as a premier game-controller and bona fide offensive playmaker. He fulfills so many roles for the national team thus looking for just one player to replace him is probably asking a bit too much, so instead, USA has got to look for a combination of Jose Torres and Jermaine Jones to fill the void. Torres brings controlled ball movement, good passing and some potential for playmaking to the position, while Jones can play more of that “destroyer” role due to his better physicality and speed (and he can also contribute on the playmaking side of things, already has a goal and an assist for Schalke 04).
Jozy Altidore probably gives the best mix of talent and experience up top, but giving him an appropriate strike partner will be key. This is where either Dempsey (if he’s not used as a winger) or Terence Boyd/Herculez Gomez can step in. While both Boyd and Gomez look solid in recent club play, I imagine Boyd has probably earned another look after his solid performance in previous qualification games. In addition, since scoring goals will be one of the hardest parts of Team USA’s mission against Jamaica, having two forwards and Dempsey stepping into the center of the field from the wing will (ideally) give them more opportunities to score.
Finally, and maybe the team’s strongest performing unit right now, is the goalkeeper and back line. Tim Howard is always pretty solid, so not much to say there, but the intended backline (some featuring in the Mexico match) of Carlos Bocanegra and Maurice Edu in the middle and Fabian Johnson and Steve Cherundolo on the outside looks pretty solid too.
Edu did well as a converted central midfielder against El Tri and Bocanegra is one of the longest tenured players on this team, so although there’s not a whole lot of speed here (something to consider against the likes of Darren Mattocks and Omar Cummings), there’s definitely a good deal of experience and savvy. Geoff Cameron provides depth here too, and maybe deserves a start here or as a defensive midfielder. Johnson and Cherundolo have also both played on the outside in numerous games now, and can definitely be effective overlapping on what will likely be a winger duo of Brek Shea and Clint Dempsey. With all those names on the flanks, it definitely becomes one of the most interesting sections of the field to watch. Keep an eye on the winger/backs interplay this Friday.
All in all, this is a game that Team USA can and should win if they really want to show us they’re on track for a meaningful 2014 World Cup push. While a loss wouldn’t kick them out of qualification contention by any means, it does make the remaining matches in Qualifies that much more desperate. Kilnsmann needs to set the tone now, and make it count when the games do too.

road traffic in ghana

ROAD TRAFFIC A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR TO LOW PRODUCTIVITY IN GHANA

Though cities and traffic have developed hand-in-hand since the earliest human settlements, traffic in Accra is on the increase.
Quite recently the level of road traffics in Accra has been overwhelming. When we take a look on our roads today we find out that traffic begins to pile up as early as six in the morning. This ends somewhere ten o’clock and starts again at four in the evening and ends around thirty minutes to eight or even later than that.
All I ask my self is how can people who seek development commence work at ten in the morning and close at four in the evening so as to avoid getting home late or being caught up in traffic. This attitude is causing a great loss to the nation in respect to productivity. This is simply because Accra happens to be the nations industrial hob; by this I mean this is where most of the country’s businesses are located.
It is true that the productivity of many countries in the world is adversely affected due to traffic but taking a careful look at the direction our dear nation Ghana is heading I say if care is not taking or if this is not curtailed, the traffic in Accra would become worse than that of Sao Paulo and productivity will continue dwindling. With elections and Christmas in just about six months the traffic in Accra will get worse since there will be an influx of people from all over the world in the country to observe the elections.
We therefore need to make a collective effort in solving this problem.

GREAT FRIENDSHIP

You are a special person
You are around when i need you
When i am sad you comfort me
When i fall you give me hope
You re very patient and kind
When iam in trouble you are there to shield me
When life was down on me you helped me rise
You are slow to resent but quick to forgive

You would be on my mind;as they say wisdom lingers
Anytime am without you i realize that when i lose you ,

POVERTY NOT A HINDRANCE

POVERTY NOT A HINDRANCE TO SUCCESS
BY: KWAKU BOAKYE KARIKARI
(STUDENT OF GHANA INSTITUTE OF JOURNALISM)
Everyone has got their own idea of what success is as well as poverty depending on one’s own situation. Many people are disturbed about the fact that they are poor or end up being poor families and therefore constantly believe it’s a hindrance to their success.
Some people say the notion poverty is not a hindrance to success is a myth. And therefore like to criticize the idea that hard work, positive thinking and such will enable one overcome poverty. Poverty is a form of success. Successful at being poverty bound is why so many people are successful at misunderstanding why the situation still exists. There is no boundary to success because we are all successful at what we do.
So, if you want to be a successful hindrance to poverty, succeed at understanding how a change in the comprehension of reality helps. Though a lower economic standard may hinder success do not fret. Celine Dion, Abranam Lincioln, Nelson Mandela were poor so was our own Osei  Kwame Despite but today they are well known simply because they stood the test of time. The rich are getting richer and the poor poorer because the poor always give up. Bone crushing poverty can make succeeding at most anything in life very difficult but there is one form of success that cannot be hindered by poverty and that is where happiness is concerned. Try asking yourself why most of the people in the villages are economically stunted however; their quality of life is considered a success. This is simply because they have continual survival and good health and this is achieved by being happy.
There are four keys to being successful;
Ø Hard work and positive thinking.
Ø Willingness to dare to be different from everyone
Ø Making the decision to be more than what life has handed you.
Ø Grabbing wealth; because if you wait for wealth, it certainly will not find you.
There are many stories about people who were poor but worked and gave it their all, eventually they became successful. Their stories inspire us and give us hope that we can reach any goal and overcome any obstacle in life no matter how great it is. Many successful people do not fit the stereotypes of the wealthy. In fact they did not grow up privileged neither did they go to great schools and in any case they did not have special connections yet they became successful. However, what they have in common is their dedications and hard work.
Bear in mind that what you think today is what you get tomorrow and if you do not visualize what you want you will never get it.
